During the testing phase, an invoice for the applicable platform fee will be sent to each passenger. When payment demand exceeds our manual processing capacity, secure payment links will be introduced. Ride fees are agreed with and paid directly to the driver. Platform fees and ride fees are separate payments.

Approved Journey Contribution Ranges

A driver chooses a contribution within the approved range for the route. You see the exact amount before requesting a seat, and it is locked once the driver accepts you. These are pilot ranges and will be refined as trip data grows.

Corridor Approved Range (per passenger)
Stellenbosch ↔ Bellville / Tygerberg R50 – R70
Stellenbosch ↔ Somerset West R35 – R55
Stellenbosch ↔ Century City / Cape Town CBD R70 – R100

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Stellies Lift Club a shuttle, taxi or e-hailing service?

No. Stellies Lift Club is a matching platform for private members coordinating planned, cost-sharing journeys. It does not employ drivers, own the vehicles or guarantee transport.

Is MovinBosch a shuttle, taxi or e-hailing service?

No. MovinBosch is a matching platform for private members coordinating planned, cost-sharing journeys. It does not employ drivers, own the vehicles or guarantee transport.

Who can join?

Passengers must be 18 or older. The recommended launch threshold for drivers is 21 or older, subject to final legal and founder confirmation. Eligible students, interns, professionals and local commuters may join.

Do I have to be a Stellenbosch University student?

No. Students are an important part of the community, but eligible local commuters and drivers can also join. Stellies Lift Club is not affiliated with or endorsed by Stellenbosch University unless expressly stated.

Does verification guarantee that a trip is safe?

No. Verification reduces anonymity by checking specified information, but it cannot guarantee a person's future behaviour, driving ability, vehicle condition or the safety of a trip. Review the available information and follow the published safety guidance.

How is the journey contribution decided?

The platform provides an approved range for the route. The driver selects an amount within that range, the passenger sees it before requesting a seat, and the amount is locked once the passenger is accepted.

Why do passengers pay a platform fee?

The platform fee supports verification, route matching, member profiles, trip records, ratings, reporting tools and ongoing support. It is separate from the journey contribution paid to the driver.

Is a match guaranteed?

No. Availability depends on verified drivers already travelling on a compatible route at a compatible time.

Can I request an immediate lift?

The service is designed for planned journeys. It should not be relied on for urgent, emergency or guaranteed same-day transport.

Can a driver collect me from home?

Only if the driver specifically offers and confirms that arrangement. Public collection points are encouraged where practical because they reduce detours and may improve personal safety.

What happens if someone cancels?

Members should cancel through the platform as early as possible. Credits or refunds follow the published Refund Policy, and repeated late cancellations or no-shows may affect account access.

How are payments handled?

During the initial version, platform access is paid through the website. Journey contributions are arranged directly between the accepted driver and passenger. Never pay an unconfirmed person or materially different amount.

Can drivers use the platform to make a profit?

The platform is intended for reasonable cost sharing on journeys the driver already plans to make. Repeated activity or pricing that appears commercial may be reviewed, restricted or removed.

Can I choose to travel only with women?

Where the feature is available, members may indicate a gender preference and the platform will show compatible options. A preference is not a guarantee of identity, conduct or safety.

What if I have a safety concern?

Use the Report a Concern function as soon as it is safe. For emergencies or suspected criminal conduct, contact the relevant emergency service or police first. The platform is not an emergency-response service.

What areas are included?

The initial focus is Stellenbosch and common Cape Town zones such as Bellville / Tygerberg, Century City, Cape Town CBD and the Southern Suburbs. Exact availability depends on member journeys.
